Brian Ian Muir is one of the most respected sculptors and artists in the film industry. He began his 48+ year career at the age of 16 in 1968 at Elstree Film Studios, where he spent the next 4 years apprenticing as a sculptor and model maker. After his apprenticeship, Brian left the film industry and further honed his skills by working on many prestigious commissions in London, creating for example the Royal Coat of Arms for the Crown Court and a plaque for the Stock Exchange (unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II). In 1976, he was asked to return to Elstree Studios to work on the Star Wars films, where he created the now iconic Darth Vader. In addition to this, he is also the creator of the Storm Trooper armor, the RA-7 protocol droid known as the Death Star Droid, the CZ 3 droid, and handled the final touches to the C-3PO droid.
The screening and discussion with the author will take place on April 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Emil Belluš Auditorium (ground floor, left wing) at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. The discussion will be held in English and admission is free.
Brian has worked on more than 70 films during his impressive 48-year career in the film industry. A list of these, along with a selection of impressive photographs, can be found on his website www.brianmuirvadersculptor.com. When Brian realized that people were interested in Star Wars and the other films he was involved in during his career, he wrote his two-volume autobiography. The first volume, titled „In the Shadow of Vader“, was a resounding success, and is now in its 6th reprint. The second volume was published under the title „Beyond the Shadow“. His recently published book „Stormtroopers, the true story“ about how the iconic armor of these characters came to be and the events that happened afterwards is also a success with readers.
