We are the only Faculty of Architecture and Design in Slovakia, so there are branches of study that can be studied only at our Faculty. We bring together art, science and technology. You can choose most studios and subjects by yourself according to what you enjoy the most. During the individual parts of your studies, you can also travel abroad for mobility and complete at least one semester at one of the 50 partner universities in the world. These include countries such as Germany, England, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and many other countries. We have the highest number of partner universities at the entire Slovak Technical University, and their number is constantly growing. You won't be unhappy at our faculty either, we have a workplace in Banská Štiavnica, where our students like to go to study, draw in the open air, consult studio work, collaborate on proposals for the restoration of historic buildings in this UNESCO-protected picturesque town. You will keep the memories of these events for life. Our University is a member of the prestigious EIT Manufacturing association and our Faculty participates in the implementation of innovative technologies within the EIT projects. At the Faculty you will also find the University Science Park, which is a technology based place supporting creation of prototypes of our students. In this way, we try to keep pace between study and practice. Experienced doctoral students will help you with 3D printing, laser cutting and/or with your work in the color laboratory. In addition to that, you will get great opportunities how to apply your talent, knowledge and skills in our studios, which cooperate with well-known car manufacturers in Slovakia and abroad, architectural studios and the creative industry.
Most of our students come from all over Slovakia. You can choose to stay with them in one of the student dormitories. These are most often located just a short walk from the city center and from the Faculty itself. We want our students to have the possibility to broaden their horizons/to acquire knowledge even beyond the regular lessons at school and that is why our senior students will put together great events in the FAD Club, which is located directly at the Faculty. You can go to the Club for lectures, film screenings, performances, a vernissage but also unforgettable events that we architects and designers will not hear a word against!
The „Beánia“ of Architects and Designers (ceremonial admission and initiation of new students to the life at university) and the Night of Architecture and Design (connected with the presentation of students' studio work are organised every year. Due to the pandemic a Virtual FAD STU Survey based on recent presentations and dissertation defenses was conducted. It makes it possible for the students to have the insight into the students‘ final theses and thus have a better idea of what our students are working on during the academic year. The theses, that are assigned by teachers, cover a wide range of topics like restoration of monuments, experimental visions of the future, transport issues, residential, civic buildings and many other interesting ones. Teachers and scientists working at the Faculty try to involve students in research, address current topics and connect them with modern technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality.
